A survey is the verification of property lines and home improvements to protect against potential claims of encroachments as well as determine the current value of the property and make sure the house is maintained and renovated according to local codes. Surveys are generally required and are part of the closing costs associated with a home purchase. Your local county tax collector usually holds surveys and determines your property tax amount based off of it.
