Term refers to the length of time it will take to pay off your home loan. For example, a 30-year mortgage will take 30 years to pay off the loan – that is, if you abide by the regular payments. If you pay off your loan early, you may have a prepayment penalty. That said, common mortgage terms are usually 15 or 30 years.
